Expanding Foam; How To Make The Most Of Your Opened Aerosol

Unless you’re using Aerosol Expanding Foam on a regular basis, chances are that the opened aerosol is going to go off or the nozzle will clog up before you next need to use it. It’s an annoying fact of life and is certainly a waste of money, so what other uses could you put it to. Whether you’re a keen DIY’er or work in a trade yourself, expanding foam is one of the most commonly used ‘tools’ (can we call it a tool?) however it’s one of the ones which many struggle with time and time again! As such, we teamed up with Orbital Fasteners, to take a look at how to use it properly and it’s best uses around the home!

Stop Banging Water Pipes

Do you have water pipes that seem to bang or rattle every time you turn a tap on? If the banging seems to be coming from under the bath, take off the bath panel and use your excess Expanding Foam to fill in the gap where they intersect floor joists. You’ll soon hear a difference when the water runs through the pipes.

Transport Breakable Items Safely

Do you need to transport any breakable objects in the near future? Here’s an easy way to do it. Spay your excess Expanding Foam into a large plastic bag or freezer bag and seal the top to stop it escaping. Take the item you wish to transport safely and press into the foam through the plastic bag. Allow to set and you have a custom made protective mould at no extra cost that will cushion your item and hopefully prevent it from breaking.

Prevent Pests

Many people are troubled by pests of one sort or another that get into the loft or roof space. To prevent unwanted visitors such as squirrels or even bats from entering your home, fill in any gaps in the eaves with crumpled up chicken wire and seal with Expanding Foam to keep them out for good.

Build A Water Feature

If you’re stuck for ideas, why not use the excess foam to build a water feature or small waterfall in your garden? Expanding Foam is excellent at bonding rocks together and will provide that bond until you decide to dismantle it in the future. Ok, maybe this last one is a little far fetched, however there’s so many uses for expanding foam! What can you come up with?
